We spotted 3 tiny Preying Mantis on the wall this morning. Smaller than a small fingernail. 3 lady bugs also present. Wondering who will survive.

Wood Sprite Defense
While hiking Stephen's land, we came across a face on a tree looking ornery enough to deter any unwanted spirits or people.

Steve's Stream
Big brother Stephen recently bought a gorgeous section of New Hampshire. In the shadow of Cardigan Mountain, with beautiful stream running through it and next to the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Cardigan Lodge There were still a few vestiges of snow left as we hiked the property earlier this week.
Maple Sugar
While in New Hampshire, my brother made WL some maple sugar. WL uses it for his amazing pecan pies. Getting it through BOS security was a challege but it eventually made it to LA Kitchen.

Bulbs
We planted 100 bulbs last fall hoping a few might pop up. A lot of risen in forgotten areas adding splashes of color. Although the stems seem to be quite weak, the weight of the flowers being too much to support.

Back Yard Progress
The new hillside plants are all doing well. The Bay Leaf has a lot of new leafs (so maybe we can start to harvest a few). The Flannel bush is sporting 4 flowers and the California Lilac has trebled in size. The Shadow Pine is living up to its name. Hard to see but doubled in height this season.

Mallows and Irises
We rarely get a bloom from the Douglas Iris but this year has been great. Ditto the orange Desert Mallow. The Hummingbird sage is giving us the usual beautiful fuschia flowers

Joshua Tree
Martina, Laura and I spent an afternoon in Joshua Tree recently. Nice to see it so green after the rains.
Banco in Situ
WL has a small stuffed squirrel sprinkled with quail scent on the end of a fishing line. Banco loves it.
