Third Time’s the Charm

Nathan the mole man came for a third time today and found out he’d caught 2 moles. He said they were bigger than normal. Our land in the back is very fertile and we have an abundance of worms and grubs. The moles got fat as they tunneled around.

The carcasses were destined for the trash.  There was a Parisian taxidermist who used to make rodents into hats. Perhaps if we have any other problems in the future.

Founder's Grove

The second day we drove down the Avenue of the Giants and wound up at Founder's Grove. The only thing we missed seeing were the famous Banana Slugs.
I thought better of trying to drive through a tree trunk with my rental car.
Below are Martina's pics.

Redwoods Skywalk

At the zoo in Eureka, CA, we found the Redwood Skywalk exhibit. You climb steps up into the trees. Platforms are connected by hanging bridges.  You're not exactly in the canopy but it was fun to explore. A negroni at a local marina ended a prefect day. Below are Martina's photos

Arcata Redwood Park

Our first morning kept us close by. The Arcata Community Forest was beautiful to explore. So much to see above and below.  The city is lucky to have these old growth giants on the edge of their hamlet. Afterwards we strolled thru town, ending up at the city's famed square.

Ridiculous if not True

Front Porch Inn

Martina and I met up in Arcata, CA recently to look at some old growth redwoods.  We stayed at the Front Porch Inn in Arcata.  Close to the ocean, I was expecting fog but the days were sunny and warm. Lovely grounds and many log "sofas" to relax on.  The fern lined walkways were magical.  Best were the outdoor tubs.  I ended up taking 4 baths over 3 days.
