More Plants

We went over to Garden View Nursery today and picked up some plants for the front yard. We will be turning the front yard into a native landscape..... hopefully needing very little water.
The new additions are:

Mexican False Heather (Cuphea Hyssopifolia)

Lion's Tale (Leonotis Leonorus)

Red Tea Tree (Leptospermum)

Mexican Bush Sage (Salvia Leucantha)

Leather Leaf Mahonia

Declaration Lilac

Tropicanna Canna/ Libertia Peregrinans/Zebrina Banana

A few of the names of the flora recently planted. along with the various Lavenders, Rosemarys, Oregano, Thyme, Chocolate Mint (!), Australian Tree Ferns, Honeysuckle and Red Sensation Cordyline.

Molding Plus

The dining room/library has been finished. The molding looks great. And yesterday, we went downtown to try to buy some lampshades from a fave south east asian import store. Instead, we came home with a plaque we hung over the window. A few sea monsters and a proud bird decorate this long wooden piece. We cleaned it up, got it a bit brighter and hung it.

New Plantings

We recently went to Armstrong Nursery in Glendale to find a 50% off sale (going on till 11/1/2009). Excellent. We got some lavender for the side of the house to go with the rosemary. We got a few honeysuckle shrubs for the front fence of the house. We might go back and get a few more of those. In the back we got some grass and a few succulents to surround the banana plant. And another fence is getting some star jasmine. Should make the backyard smell sweet next summer.

Mantis

There has been a Mantis perched next to the kitchen door for two days. Not sure what he's hanging out for.... but beautiful looking specimen.

BsAs in Mount Washington

Yesterday we put the door hardware I purchased in Argentina on the new garage door. It was a rehearsal for when we put it on the kitchen door. We need to get some brass screws to replace the ill fitting steel screws we had to use. Also, the street number sign I had made in Buenos Aires came in the mail. It looks great on the front of the house.

Hotel Monaco

We just returned from a shoot in Portland, Oregon. It had been 17 years since my last visit and the city proved to be exceptionally vibrant and hip. There is no hipper place to stay in Portland than the Hotel Monaco. A train wreck of color, patterns and amazing upholstery make all the public areas fun to be in. The room are huge with lounges and bathrooms the size of my Brooklyn apartment. They love dogs and one afternoon, they gave away goldfish in big glass bowls to all who wanted company in their rooms.

Mati M

While we were in Buenos Aires, the production had a very talented young fotog Matias Matocq documenting the days. The resulting pictures seem to have made the shoot even more glamorous and fun. Mati has a great eye for fashion and editorial work. I hope to see more of his work soon.
