Shasta Day 2

I got to my cabin in Lakeshore in the late afternoon and stayed in the shade and read my book. The unexpected heat of the day was really tiring. The following day to reach 102 so I got on the water at 6:30.  The lake was placid and calm.  I caught a train coming over the local trestle bridge. I was back on my way to GP before 9:30. It was already 80 when I left.

Shasta Day 1

I drove to Shasta Lake last week for a few days of kayaking. The sight of Shasta is most impressive.  The day's heat soared to 96.  The water seemed very warm for May.  I wish I'd taken a swim suit. The scenery was gorgeous.

Portage

While Bruce and I were parking our cars, someone spoke to Lindsay about a wonderful kayak on the northern end of Lake of the Woods.  It involved going under a low bridge and coming out into the vast overflow fields beyond.  There's so much water that these fields were looking like a fun new paddle.

The water was swift under the bridge and when we got to the other side, downed trees were blocking us. The current was too swift to go back the way we came so we portaged the boats and reentered the water.  We then had to portage again when we came to the end of the field, walking the boats to a nearby boat ramp.

After that diversion, we continued with our normal north lake excursion.  We saw the familiar bald eagle there.  And a winter sign warning of snowmobiling and cross country skiing on the river.....

Pollinator's R Us

After 4 years of planting and watering, the rocky part next to the driveway is finally gorgeous and in full bloom. The poppies by the pool will be in full bloom this weekend.

Bruce's 70th

An excellent tiki themed day for Bruce's 70th. Lindsey even rustled up some genuine hula dancers. Becca cooked up Hawaiian food.  A wonderful afternoon.
