Lindsay's Treasure

We went to Galesville reservoir last week for a paddle. The water is low and the old forest is exposed. Lindsay is always on the look out for old lures in the sunken forest. This week, she pulled up a real treasure.
 

Jason's Pot

 

Robin and I got a tour of Jason's award winning pot farm yesterday. Interesting how different it smells when uncut and not burning. On the side, Jason is my physical therapist and his wife owns one of the best restaurants in town.  A very busy family. Harvesting begins on Monday.

Lake of the Woods

Lovely day out on Lake of the Woods yesterday.  A bit windy so we headed to the northern part of the lake. Very calm and a lot of ducks to feed. Rice crispy treats and cheddar cheese was on the menu.
 

Chef W

WL gave a master class in Garlic Knot making yesterday.  Then he made his famous spicy pasta with his new batch of tomato sauce. Adding too many bottles of wine to the afternoon resulted in many food comas. 

Finally

 

We finally got rid of the C Stand and old shower curtain that had been our living room curtain for three years. A much improved situation and another piece of the house's history put to rest.

Pat's Birthday

 

It was Pat's birthday last monday so some us motored into the Applegate and had a riverside picnic at Red Lily winery.  Deb made a gooey chocolate/cherry cake that was amazing.

Tile Mantlepiece

 

My brother created a fabulous tile mantelpiece work for his living room.  It represents his view of the lake from his home. A really wonderful piece of art.

First Abbott's

On my recent trip back east to Rochester. we had to introduce the grand niece and nephew to a Lake Ontario tradition, Abbott's Frozen Custard.  Since 1902 they have been the go to summer treat.  A new generation of followers began this week.

My other have to have is Rochester comfort food, Country Sweet Wings. Super messy and super yummy.  My friends and I started going in the 1980's when they were in a tiny store on Monroe Ave.   Sometimes it's the first stop from the airport.

5% Fish

Yesterday we paddled Lake of the Woods.  I was early so I went to see what a 5% filled reservoir looks like. Fish Lake is one of our favorite spots to kayak.  Now it looks like a moonscape.

Tomato Jam

Recently a neighbor gave us 25 pounds of tomatoes.  Marzanos, sun golds and others.  I took 5 pounds to the Mazzola's and Debbie taught me how to make tomato jam. Her secret twist is to smoke the tomatoes first and then added the sugar and spices.  We cooked the whole pot down to a thicker consistency and canned the result.  My first time canning.

Meanwhile back at home, W is making homemade tomato paste to put into his already incredibly good tasting sauce.

White Lilies

The white lilies out front are finally opening.  The deer ate the red ones but seem less inclined to munch these.
 

She's Gone

The only daughter of Alfred Hitchcock and Alma Reville, Patricia Hitchcock died yesterday at 93.

Red and Charlie

We helped Karen put together her new sofa. Her dogs Red and Charlie took right to it. Looks like they're ready for Amsterdam.

For Barb's birthday, RK and I made a gnome installation in her front yard.  Barb loves frogs and gnomes.  And her VW vehicles........
