Irony

The Huffington Post has several Ironic Signs. Very funny. More here

Bursting

Everything in the garden is officially bursting. The tea tree's inhibited nature has been shucked for tons of red little flowers. The hummingbird sage is blooming and the sages and verbenas are fighting for space. Even the iris we planted a scant four weeks ago has produced a single flower.

Paella Tagine

Poking around Vroman's in Pasadena last weekend, I came across a spanish cookbook by Penelope Casas. The recipe that drew me to the book was an egg crusted pork, chicken and sausage paella. All my favorite meats in one dish. And even though we do not own a traditional paella dish, the bottom of the tagine worked beautifully. The smell had Seven circling the chef, waiting for a handout.

    Orange Ice

One of our Icelandic poppies succumbed to the ravages of slugs last week. So I noticed at Lowe's they had some orange ice plants. Purple seems to be the common color and we have a few of those. So adding some deep oranges to our reds, blues and purples seems like a good match.

    Spaceship

We finished our pilot last week. About a group of amateurs trying to recreate their favorite SciFi show. We took over a gorgeous old warehouse east of the city and transformed it into a low rent nerds paradise. Lots of colored lights and painted flats. The best part was the old citrus packing warehouse's ceiling. Very cool and we were all thinking about co-op conversions.

    The Garden Grows

After a lot of rain and a lot of sunshine, the garden has erupted in a fit of spring growth. The ground covers are beginning to meet and merge. The larger Kangaroo Paws are shooting up tall stalks and the tea tree bush is a day or two away from an explosion of red blooms. The previous owners bulbs have also grown giving us an unexpected crop of daffodils.

    The Dog Ate My iPod

We came home from watching Polanski's excellent "Ghost Writer" this evening to find a chewed catalog Seven had no doubt used to pick his canines with after the main course......my iPod touch. He even manage to pry off a bit of the back. And although the screen may be cracked, the thing still works. Just a lesson WL has been trying to teach me for months, whatever you don't want munched on..... elevate.
BTW.... If you're wanting a good thriller, "The Ghost Writer" is well worth a look.

    Green Machine

On one of my many trips to Home Depot yesterday, I noticed that they had a small push mower on sale. Today I put it together and mowed our small back yard. It made short work of grass and weeds alike. WL came out to investigate and proceeded to re-cut the yard, loving every minute of it. He was smiling and laughing.... I guess he didn't have a push mower on an acre of land growing up.

    Going to Ground

Louis is back from the east coast and is currently bolting the house to the foundation. There is a little crawl space under the house. About three feet in the back becoming less than two in the house's front. Today he epoxied five cracks (3 of which the inspector told us of last year) and drilled the holes for the clamps. Tomorrow we attach the clamps and hopefully see my insurance drop a few hundred dollars.

    Flora and Fauna

Friday and Saturday's rain made for some explosive growth in the garden. Sunday's sky was brilliant blue and a few ladybugs and honey bees were not going to deter Seven from having a good sniff around.

    Commercial

We finished a big commercial last week in Los Angeles for a new client. Here are a few pics from of our leading man and lady.
