Christmas Cacti

I was back East for a few days last week.  Mom's christmas cacti were looking good and in full bloom.  Now that we live in a climate that's right for the plants, we picked up two today.

Gimpy on Limpy

Karen took Banco and I on a great walk around Limpy Trail.  The trees were amazing, furry and big.  The stream was impressive.  Will be perfect summertime getaway. Almost the best part..... stopping by Rogue River Creamery for a toasted cheese on the way home!

Lights

We dug out a few lights to at least give some semblance to the season

New Screen

The crazy 1960's style fireplace screen came yesterday. I think it'll be good when painted black...... Or maybe we just wait to see what a season of fires do to the finish.

Tree House Hotel

I was flipping through a magazine at a doctor's office and there was an article about the treehouse resorts down south in Cave Junction.  There are two of them.  Looks like a fun weekend thing to do.

Morning treats for the pups.

Crowned

Dr. Devitt's handiwork has been with me for over 40 years.  Unfortunately, one of the fillings is getting loose and a crown is needed.  Bits of filling sprayed the room as my new dentist drilled. The mold process was a bit tedious.

Prospect OR

Karen kidnapped me and Banco last week for a drive up to Prospect.  Population 455. Where the Union creek meets the Rogue River.  Impressive dam nearby. Crystal clear water. And tall trees!

Boring Drivers

I loved this headline from the local paper.  Seems the residents here drive the speed limit and don't blow through red lights.  No hotbed of vehicular malfeasance here. Just boring drivers.

Turkey Pasture

Most mornings, we have the local flock of turkeys meandering through the yard looking for breakfast.

New Akunin

Just received the new Erast Fandorin mystery/thriller from England.  The publishers keep translating these novels from the Russian original but have stopped selling them in America.  These books are always worth the transatlantic wait. This one takes place in 1914 Crimea.  Fandorin travels to Baku for some skullduggery.

Misty Morn

It was beautiful driving through the Applegate Valley yesterday morning.  By the time we got to Schmidt's winery, the sun was poking out.  Perfect day to get $300 off a case of their pinot noir wine.

First Fire

The cost of bringing up the gas fire to code deemed too expensive.  So we ripped it out, covered a hole with some steel and furnace cement and returned the fireplace to it's original purpose.

New Armchairs

We saw these faux bamboo Thomasville chairs online last summer.  But before we could get them, the owner had to go to Texas for cancer treatment.  The week he returned, I went into the hospital.  So after a lot of back and forth, we finally received the chairs today.

Nepalese Dog Love

Good Friend Martina just got back from a job in Nepal.  Seems that once a year they worship their dogs.  Any dog, domestic or stray.  They get a red dot (tikka) and a flower garland.  Seems like this should be happening more than just once annually.

Meeting Button

We got to meet Robin's new Briard puppy this afternoon.  His name is Button.... pronounced "Bou-ton".  He liked cleaning out my ear.

Lucky Bamboo

W bought a bunch of lucky bamboo and has been repotting them and putting them around the house.  I wish they were here 2 months ago......

Library Steps

The day before my knee blew out, I drove to Talent to buy these library steps.  My plan was to strip and paint them before they made their home next to the bookcases.  But for now, they all remain a winter refuge for some of the outdoor plants.

False Equivalency

Both sides do it?
