Today in Central Park the local Mongol community celebrated Nadaam today. They came from all over the northeast to wrestle a little, sing a little and eat a lot. I was with my Mongolian expert Martina and another camerawoman.
At one point a Russian family passed by and their sons participated. Both lost but were given high fives for the try.
Later during the traditional costume contest, one participant had the right
Deel and sash on, but I think the fedora was non regulation.

Needless to say that the organizers came by three times, trying to sign up John to wrestle. I doubt though that they had a traditional "bikini top" that would have fit him.
And yes, the Fedora is part of the national outfit. It is worn on holidays and during official events, like Nadaam. While herding, many Mongolians traded their traditional hats for baseball caps - what a surprise.
