He's Gone

Roger Moore has passed on.  Everyone loves the Bond they grew up with and since "Spy Who Loved Me" was my first Bond film,  Moore is my favorite. Always self deprecating, my favorite story is of Noel Coward visiting RADA while Moore was a student:

"When I was a young actor at RADA, Noël Coward was in the audience one night. He said to me after the play, 'Young man, with your devastating good looks and your disastrous lack of talent, you should take any job ever offered you. In the event that you're offered two jobs simultaneously, take the one that offers the most money.' Here I am."

My one brush with him was driving through Beverley Hills one day many years ago.  At a stop light, I pulled up next to a powder blue Rolls Royce.  In the front was Roger driving and Michael Caine.  Their wives in the back.  A nonchalant double take from me later and they motored away, unaware of having made my day.

He was 89 and succumbed to cancer. BBC obit here
